For our client- fintech company with a presence in international markets, that enables customers to pay for any product or service in instalments in any shop and through any channel in just a few clicks, we are recruiting a Head of Legal.
Description
Develop and implement the legal and regulatory framework (including NIS2) and the processes that ensure compliance;
Provide high-quality strategic and operational legal advice on a wide range of legal and regulatory topics;
Monitor local legislative changes and integrate them into company operations and legal documentation;
Oversee all legal matters in Romania and ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including: corporate law, commercial law, consumer protection, consumer lending, banking and payments law, payment services regulations, and employment law;
Perform compliance risk assessments and coordinating action plans to address regulatory gaps and drive remediation;
Draft and supervise Romanian legal documentation for company projects and ensuring timely fulfillment of contractual obligations;
Provide guidance on corporate governance structures and rules applicable in Romania;
Coordinate compliance activities alongside the compliance expert, local senior management, the Group Head of Legal and Compliance, the local team, and external advisors;
Offer essential legal support to all business lines;
Create, implement, and enforce legal and regulatory policies and procedures, with particular expertise in regulatory supervision, consumer protection, and employment law;
Manage the internal policy and procedure lifecycle - validation, updates, and publication - as part of a comprehensive compliance framework across all relevant areas;
Maintain a centralized repository of approved documents and organizational policies;
Develop practical tools, templates, and guidance to support legal implementation;
Ensure ongoing awareness of changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards and drive company compliance with such changes;
Work closely with the Group Head of Legal to improve legal processes and support the implementation of system changes;
Report to Senior Management and the Group Head of Legal on agreed topics and within pre-defined timelines;
Provide leadership and working closely with regulatory authorities throughout relevant processes;
Act as the main point of contact for Romanian legal-related queries from external stakeholders;
Lead and take part in internal legal projects;
Manage relationships with external legal advisors when required;
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and regulatory bodies;
Handle ad-hoc legal tasks as needed;
Apply sound legal judgment and deliver practical solutions that balance the perspectives and needs of multiple stakeholders;
Promote lean practices and daily management principles to embed the legal function into the company culture.
Requirements
2–3 years of experience in relevant fields such as banks, retail banking, or compliance;
Faculty of Law – Bachelor’s degree (Law degree / LL.B.);
Minimum 5 years of experience in a legal role, with solid experience in corporate law, commercial law, compliance, and international transactions;
Experience in managing legal projects and coordinating with external advisors and international teams;
Proven experience in representing the Legal Department in complex Romanian business transactions;
Extensive experience in legal leadership and corporate governance within a regulated financial services environment, ideally within a Romanian non-banking financial institution;
Fluency in English (verbal and written) and strong understanding of English legal terminology;
Ability to collaborate with multiple internal functions to deliver accurate, consistent support, backed by insightful legal analysis that enables informed business decisions;
Proactive mindset and ability to identify and implement process improvements, with focus on key legal and compliance risks and efficient use of available resources;
Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and compliance procedures;
Strong communication, negotiation, and analytical skills in both Romanian and English;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment;
Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively prioritize projects;
Solid organizational and time-management skills;
Resilience and ability to perform under pressure or within tight deadlines.
